How To Keep Your Children Safe

Did you know that children in Ireland are now receiving their first mobile phone at an average of just 9 years old - even though parents would prefer to wait until 12 or 13?

This presents enormous challenges for parents, who need to balance peer pressure and the pain of saying “no!” with the very real dangers posed by smartphones, and the concern that children are simply not ready to have access to their own devices so young.

At some point, your child will get their first smartphone - that’s all but certain. The age they are when that happens, and what you do to keep them safe when it does, is vital to protecting your child in a world where so much can go on behind closed doors.

At Olus Education we are huge believers in the power of technology to leverage human creativity and change the world for the better, but there’s little doubt that it’s easier than ever to get the trade-offs wrong. With the sheer variety of devices on the market, and an endless stream of new apps and platforms to worry about, how can you as a parent find a safe path through for your child?
